European Kyokushin Summer Camp 2025
I.K.O. Matsushima, 10th–13th July
Möhnesee, Germany
The 2025 European Kyokushin Summer Camp, held under the auspices of the I.K.O. Matsushima Kyokushin Karate Organization, took place from July 10th to 13th in the scenic lakeside town of Möhnesee, Germany. This annual event brought together over 75 dedicated karateka from across Europe, creating a vibrant and disciplined training environment rooted in the spirit of *Osu* and Kyokushin tradition.
Participants traveled from various countries including Ukraine, Poland, Finland, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Croatia. This diversity reflected the international spirit of Kyokushin Karate and fostered both cultural exchange and martial camaraderie among practitioners of all ages and levels.
The camp was headed by I.K.O. Matsushima Europe President, Shihan Klaus Rex, a highly respected figure in the global Kyokushin community. His guidance ensured a rigorous and disciplined camp structure, while also encouraging growth, humility, and mutual respect.
Throughout the camp, shihans and senseis with extensive experience in international competition and instruction provided a broad exposure to traditional and modern Kyokushin methods
The training program was intensive and well-structured, balancing physical rigor with technical refinement. Sessions were divided across three core Kyokushin pillars:
1. Kihon to improve fundamental techniques with focused drills in stance, strikes, and breathing coordination to bring emphasis on precision and repetition
2. Kata including bunkai (applications) to deepen understanding, led by instructors from each country, allowing for stylistic comparison and standardization
3. Kumite for controlled, full-contact rounds tailored to belt level and experience, including technical sparring drills, strategy, and endurance building
Möhnesee, known for its serene lake and natural beauty, provided an ideal backdrop for martial arts immersion. Beyond the intense training, participants enjoyed social time through shared meals, cultural exchange, and a final “Sayonara” gathering on the last evening. These moments helped strengthen international friendships and support a unified Kyokushin community across Europe.
A key highlight of the camp was the Dan grading and Kyu belt test, conducted under the supervision of Shihan Klaus Rex and a panel of senior instructors. Candidates underwent a demanding evaluation process that tested their skill, spirit, and physical conditioning across kihon, kata, and kumite. The grading culminated in multiple rounds of full-contact sparring, where candidates demonstrated their resilience and mental fortitude. Several practitioners successfully earned their next belt ranks—including new black belt promotions up to 4th Dan—marking a proud milestone in their Kyokushin journey.
The 2025 European Kyokushin Summer Camp in Möhnesee was a resounding success—blending rigorous training, technical growth, and international fellowship. Under the leadership and the support of experienced branch chiefs and instructors, this year’s camp not only upheld the high standards of I.K.O. Matsushima but also reaffirmed the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance that lie at the heart of Kyokushin Karate.
